FR-4 is a flame-retardant epoxy glass fiber cloth laminated board.
In terms of composition, it is mainly made by pressing glass fiber cloth impregnated with epoxy resin under high temperature and high pressure. Epoxy resin provides good adhesion and insulation, while glass fiber cloth endows the board with high mechanical strength.
In terms of performance, FR-4 has excellent electrical insulation properties. It has high insulation resistance and can withstand high voltages, effectively preventing circuit short circuits and leakage in electronic products, ensuring the safe and stable operation of electronic devices. It also has excellent mechanical performance, high strength and hardness, and can withstand certain pressure and impact forces. For example, it will not easily deform during the installation of electronic components. Moreover, it also has good flatness, which is crucial for producing high-precision circuit boards.
FR-4 also has good chemical corrosion resistance and can resist various common chemical reagents, such as acidic and alkaline solutions. In addition, it has a certain degree of flame resistance, which can delay the spread of fire when encountering a source of ignition, thereby increasing safety during use.
In application scenarios, FR-4 is widely used in the electronics industry. It is the main material for making printed circuit boards (PCBs), whether it is single panel, double-sided board or multi-layer board, FR-4 plays an important role. It can also be used to make insulation components such as casings and brackets for electronic devices.
