Application characteristics of POM materials

POM material has the following characteristics:
-Excellent mechanical performance: It has a high elastic modulus, high rigidity and hardness, and a specific strength and rigidity close to that of metals. It has excellent tensile strength, bending strength, creep resistance, and fatigue resistance, can withstand repeated impacts, and has excellent load recovery
-Good friction performance: low friction coefficient, wear resistance, good self-lubricating properties, can be used to manufacture components that require frequent sliding or friction, such as gears, bearings, etc
-Strong dimensional stability: low water absorption, small dimensional changes in humid environments, long-term use in hot water, and relatively stable mechanical properties
-Good chemical stability: except for strong acids, phenols, and organic halides, it is stable to other chemicals, oil resistant, and can be used in certain chemical environments
-Excellent electrical insulation performance: It has excellent electrical insulation properties and is not affected by temperature and humidity, making it suitable for the field of electronic appliances
-Good processing performance: easy to process and shape, can be made into various shapes of products through injection molding, extrusion and other methods, with high processing accuracy
-Good appearance and color: Smooth surface, glossy, diverse colors, can meet different appearance needs
The advantages of POM material include:
-High strength and light weight: The strength and rigidity are comparable to metals, but the density is much lower than metals, which can reduce the weight of components and has advantages in fields such as aerospace where weight reduction is required
-Outstanding wear resistance: The wear resistance is better than most engineering plastics, and the parts made have a long service life, such as conveyor belt accessories and mechanical transmission components in industrial production
-Good self-lubricating effect: It can work under no lubrication or low oil lubrication conditions, reduce maintenance costs, and is suitable for equipment with special lubrication requirements such as food processing machinery
-Low cost: Compared to some high-performance metal materials and special engineering plastics, POM has a relatively low cost, which can reduce product manufacturing costs
The main disadvantages of POM materials are:
-Poor flame retardancy: flammable and difficult to extinguish flames during combustion, low oxygen index, and ineffective addition of flame retardants, limiting its application in places with high fire prevention requirements
-Poor weather resistance: Long term exposure to the atmosphere and sunlight can lead to performance degradation, discoloration, and brittleness. If outdoor use is required, stabilizers need to be added
-Limited thermal stability: The processing temperature range is narrow, and high temperature control is required during the molding process. If the temperature is too high, it is easy to decompose and produce formaldehyde gas, which is harmful to human health and the environment. Therefore, strict control of process parameters is required during processing
-Difficulty in bonding: Low surface energy, poor response to adhesives, resulting in difficulty in bonding, limiting its application in some structures that require bonding assembly
