9 Performance Advantages of PEEK Materials

Compared to other engineering plastics, PEEK material has the following advantages:

1.Mechanical performance
PEEK combines rigidity and toughness, with excellent performance in tensile strength, elastic modulus, and hardness. It has good impact resistance and creep resistance, and can maintain stability over a wide temperature range, meeting the requirements for material strength and stability under complex working conditions

2.Heat resistance performance
PEEK has a melting point of up to 343 ℃, a glass transition temperature of 143 ℃, a long-term use temperature of 260 ℃, and an instantaneous use temperature of 300 ℃. It can still maintain good mechanical properties and dimensional stability in high temperature environments, far superior to general engineering plastics. It can be applied to aerospace, automotive engines and other components under high temperature conditions

3.Wear resistance performance
PEEK has certain self-lubricating properties, low friction coefficient, extremely low wear rate, and can maintain good tribological performance at 250 ℃. It is suitable for manufacturing wear-resistant components such as bearings and gears, which can improve the service life and operating efficiency of equipment

4.Corrosion resistance performance
PEEK has excellent resistance to organic solvents, oils, weak acids, and weak bases. Except for concentrated sulfuric acid, it is almost insoluble in other acids, bases, and organic solvents. Its corrosion resistance is similar to nickel steel and can be used in harsh chemical environments, such as chemical equipment, medical devices, and other fields

5.Radiation resistance performance
PEEK can withstand a radiation dose of 1100mrad without sacrificing performance, and can resist gamma rays and electron beam radiation. It is suitable for fields such as nuclear energy, aerospace, etc. that require radiation resistance

6.dimensional stability
PEEK has a small coefficient of thermal expansion, good dimensional stability, and is close to aluminum metal. It can maintain precise dimensional accuracy in environments with large temperature changes, which is of great significance for manufacturing precision parts and components that require dimensional stability

7.Processing performance
PEEK, as a thermoplastic material, has good high-temperature flowability and high thermal decomposition temperature. It can be processed by various methods such as injection molding, extrusion molding, and compression molding, making it easy to process into various complex shaped parts and meet the needs of different application scenarios

8.Lightweight advantage
PEEK pure resin has a density of only about 1.3g/cm ³, even lower than that of carbon fiber materials, and has a high specific strength. While meeting the strength requirements, it can significantly reduce the self weight of the material itself, achieving the demand for lightweight plastic instead of steel. It is suitable for fields with high lightweight requirements such as medical, automotive, and robotics

9.Biocompatibility
PEEK is non-toxic and has good biocompatibility. It is the best long-term bone transplant material certified by the US FDA. After implantation in the human body, it will not cause harmful effects and has broad application prospects in the medical field, such as manufacturing prostheses, stents, dental restoration materials, etc
